Sun Ra’s Fate in a Pleasant Mood was recorded in 1960 at the tail end of the Arkestra’s Chicago period. Issued on his own Saturn label, it showcases the group in a moment of change—still rooted in the tightly arranged horn charts of the 1950s, yet beginning to edge towards sparser textures, dissonance, and the exploratory sound that would soon define their work.
The album features standout contributions from John Gilmore and Marshall Allen alongside Sun Ra on piano. This edition includes the complete original album plus a set of bonus tracks: ‘Space Loneliness’, ‘Somewhere in Space’, ‘The Blue Set’, ‘Enlightenment’, ‘Tapestry From An Asteroid’, and ‘Hour of Parting’.
