COLDPLAY: “Brothers & Sisters” Limited blue/pink double 7″. Released 6th Dec 2024

The original ‘Brothers and Sisters’ release was a two-track 7” (‘Brothers and Sisters’ and ‘Easy To Please’) and a three track CD single, with ‘Only Superstition’ as the third song which, while not included on the original 7″ vinyl release, appears on this special 25th anniversary edition. The fourth track on the EP is a new addition, ‘The Story of Brothers and Sisters’. This is a spoken word excerpt lifted from the audiobook of ‘Pandamonium! How Not To Run A Record Label’ by Fierce Panda founder Simon Williams.

The debut single by Coldplay, “Brothers & Sisters” was released by Fierce Panda in April 1999.

“Brothers & Sisters” was the result of a short-lived deal between Coldplay and Fierce Panda Records. After seeing them perform at the Camden Falcon in December 1998, shortly after they had formed. The label offered to release the band’s debut single, to which they agreed. It was the only release by Coldplay under Fierce Panda. It would be the second time that Fierce Panda would release a debut single from a band that would move on to achieve great success, losing Embrace the year before to Hut Records after releasing their debut single “All You Good Good People”.

The single was recorded at Station Studios in February 1999, taking only four days to complete and cost the band only £400.

Usually featuring two tracks, “Brothers & Sisters” and “Easy to Please”, with some singles featuring a third track, “Only Superstition”, the single managed to sneak into the UK Singles Chart, peaking at #107.
