THE MARS VOLTA: “De-Loused In The Comatorium” limited blue/green 2LP. Released 29th Oct 2021

One of THE greatest albums of modern times gets a welcome reissue!

So Cedric and Omar left At The Drive-In, formed a heavy-psych-rock band and made a prog album about a chap in a coma. It is indescribably magnificent, howling, histrionic, epic, noodling…it is all of the things. But it’s a thrilling ride.

The cover artwork is by Storm Thorgerson, who also designed the artwork for the album Frances the Mute. The album is co-produced by Rick Rubin and The Mars Volta guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez. As Eva Gardner, the original bassist, parted ways with the band, Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist Flea is featured at bass guitar player on the album.

The official blurb: Early in the formative stages of The Mars Volta, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala distilled the essence of their mission to one simple phrase: “Honour our roots, honour our dead”. This mindset found perfect expression in the group’s 2003 debut full-length, De-Loused In The Comatorium, a song cycle inspired by the life and death of the duo’s old friend, artist and provocateur Julio Venegas. Julio had such a profound influence on us, artistically, spiritually and personally,” says Omar.
